The Player Packet

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Crusade Campaign held at Off the Wall Games. This player packet outlines all of the crusade rules outside of crusade rules in Kill Team or 40k rule books. This document, and webpage is not intended to infringe on, or challenge copyrights held by Games Workshop Group PLC or its subsidiaries and is unofficial.

All official communications will be made through the Off the Wall discord and all decisions about the crusade will come from a CO or TL.

Administratum

Administratum Invite URL

We will use Administratum to track this campaign. Administratum is an online platform produced by Goonhammer for managing Crusade campaigns. You will be able to enter and adjust your Order of Battle and track your games in Administratum. You don’t need to pay to use Administratum as a player.

Please make your nickname match your name in discord so its easy for us to match who you are in Administratum with Discord Administratum Profile

Rosters: Players are expected to have a roster in administratum for each system they are playing. For systems outside core 40k, empty rosters are used to record wins and losses. Add a note indicating which system the roster is for, for example (Kill Team).

Alignment

Teams are arranged in 3 Grand Alliances. Loyalists (Imperium), Chaos, and Xenos. While Xenos is not a keyword, for all use in this packet, XENOS is for all non IMPERIUM or CHAOS factions.

Rules

Unless otherwise noted, all rules are defined by Games Workshop. Kill Team and 40k have Crusade Rules. Combat Patrol and Boarding Actions do not have crusade rules.

All crusade rules where it states players can choose or roll players are expected to roll. This includes rules like battle traits, weapon modifications and battle scars.

For all rolls for battle traits, weapon modifications, and battle scars, you may re-roll if the result would duplicate an ability which the unit already has.

Boarding Actions rules state additional Enhancements and Stratagems can be found in Arks of Omen books. Only Enhancements and Stratagems in the core Boarding Actions 10th ed rules are valid. To muster a boarding patrol see the rules here

Chapters

Escape from the Void consists of five chapters and a prelude. Each Chapter every player receives a number of control points that they can use to fight battles with. By fighting a battle, a player subtracts the amount of Control Points the format costs from their total amount.

Crusade and Game Play

Players can participate in Kill Team, Boarding Actions, Combat Patrol, and Warhammer 40k

Kill Team

Spec Ops Narrative https://tinyurl.com/5b29aud

Players are able to muster One Kill Team so long as the faction is aligned to their Grand Alliance keyword (LOYALIST, CHAOS, XENOS). If there’s a question, ask.

Combat Patrol Crusade

Players can play any combat patrol within their Grand Alliance. Players can play as many different types of combat patrols as they wish as combat patrol is not compatible with crusade rules. This is because combat patrol uses custom datasheets per unit and doesn’t work with crusade. Please direct questions as to why Games Workshop made this decision to 40kFAQ@gwplc.com

Warhammer 40k Boarding Actions

Players can play any Boarding Actions faction within their Grand Alliance. Boarding Actions armies do not count for crusade experience and do not get battle scars or traits.

Warhammer 40k

Players are able to muster One> Order of battle so long as the faction is aligned to their Grand Alliance keyword (LOYALIST, CHAOS, XENOS). If there’s a question, ask.

Players get XP from 2 games per chapter (except Chapter 3 which allows 3 games to earn XP)

Team Captain Responsibilities

Team captains have specific responsibilities.

Schedule

Each player who has not played their maximum number of games as described by the chapter may offer their Control Points to the Team Leader. The team leader can distribute these control points at their discretion. This allows players to influence planetary control with these additional points. However, players who receive extra control points and play games with them may not gain experience or battle scars for their units or requisition points for their army.

The Map

Every crusade game starting in Chapter 1 must be for control of a hex tile on the map board at Off the Wall.

Control Points

Control points are used to determine which Grand Alliance controls a hex tile. The number of Control Points a game is worth is determined by its format. Each player gets a fixed number of control points per chapter.

Game Style # of Control Points per Player
Kill Team 1
Combat Patrol 1
Boarding Actions 1
Warhammer 40k 500 Points 1
Warhammer 40k 1000,1500 Points 2
Warhammer 40k 3000 Points 3

Hex Tile Types

There are four types of tiles, each requiring a different number of control points to control, and support different formats of game. Planets are planet tiles which can control the surrounding six hexes and have 10 control points. Space stations can control surrounding six hexes and have 1 control point. Near space are hex tiles 1 hex away from a planet or a space station and have 1 control point. Deep space are hex tiles 2 or more hexes away from any planet or space station.

Match Making

Once two players decide to play a game they do the following:

  1. Agree on format. Options are Kill Team, Combat Patrol, Boarding Actions, or 40k at a specified points level. Not all players play all formats, and so it’s important to be clear what type of game you’re looking for.
  2. Once a format is decided, roll off to determine attacker and defender.
  3. Attacker selects a valid hex to fight on (Planet/Near Space/Space Station).
  4. Players use the setup and play card for the format they’ve chosen and follow its instructions
  5. After the game and BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE, update the map to reflect the outcome of the game and post to crusade discord room.

Planetary Control

A planet starts with 10 Control Points which are owned by the initial controlling player. Control Points change ownership as games are played on that planet based on the game style. Player with highest control points on a planet control the planet.

Event Loyalist Control Chaos Control Xenos Control
Start 10 0 0
Chaos Kill Team Attacks Loyalists and wins 9 1 0
Loyalist Kill Team attacks Chaos and Wins 10 0 0
Xenos attacks Loyalists 1000 points and Xenos wins 8 0 2
Chaos attacks Loyalists with 2000 points and wins 5 3 2
Loyalists attack Chaos with 1000 points and loses
Chaos take control of planet
3 5 2

Near Space Control

Near Space tiles have 1 Control Point.

Space Station Control

Space Station tiles have 1 Control Point.

Playing a Space Station

Only one game can occur on a space station at any given time, make sure no other games are being played on the station at the store at the time you start.

Winning a Planet or Space Station

When a team flips a planet or space station all of the space tiles within one hex around the planet flip to the winner's control. Unless the space tile is controlled by a third team.

For example Loyalists control a planet, but two of its surrounding space tiles are controlled by Xenos. When Chaos flips the planet the space tiles controlled by Xenos remain in Xenos control.

Models and Hobby

Base Size

Players are expected to field models with bases that match the base size outlined by WTC. WTC sized bases must be used but models don't have to be affixed to it, meaning blutack can be used to attach older models to right sized bases with no impact to hobby scoring. If a model is not in the WTC list, a secondary acceptable reference is the games-workshop webstore if a base size is listed, or wahapedia which also lists base sizes for units. If there is a conflict between these places WTC will be considered the authority.

For information why base size is important this article explains why.

Note Crusade Officers will not be the base police. However, if there is a moderation decision to be made based on a complaint, this is the rule we will follow.

Legend Models

Players are able to field legend models in their army presuming the following conditions are met.

  • The legend model is listed on the GW legends page linked above.
For example, while Squats had rules at one point, and will have rules again in 9th. Until the rules in 9th are published, they are unplayable.
  • The legend model is reviewed by the Crusade Officers to compare to similar models to ensure it's not broken strong.
  • The player is responsible to ensure keywords are allowed within their army
  • The player with a legend model declares it as legend to their opponents at the start of the game.
  • A Crusade Officer may request a player stop fielding their legend model, and replace it, if it's clear during play it is overpowered. If this happens all experience can be transferred to the new model without penalty

Proxy Models

Players are able to field proxy models in their army presuming the following conditions are met.

  • Approval from J. No proxy can be fielded without direct approval.
  • The proxy model is clearly different from other models in the army.
  • For example, in a Space Marine army with a squad of 10 Marines with bolters, it is not ok to declare one of those bolter models to have a plasma pistol. This is because it will not be easy for your opponent to identify the weapons and capabilities of that unit.
  • The proxy model is the same size, and on the same base, as the model you intend to proxy.
  • For example, in a Space Marine army it is not OK to use a Rhino as a Land Raider because they are different sizes. It is also not ok to use Tactical Marines as Primaris Marines as they are different sizes and use different bases (32mm vs 40mm).
  • The proxy model is close to quality to the model you intend to proxy
For example 3d printed models with noticeable print lines, or a scratch build model that's identifiable as its original object are both examples of proxy models that should be avoided.
